Sprains, suspected fractures, acute lower back pain...If you suddenly injure yourself on a holiday or weekend, what department should you go to? You can be examined at a general internal medicine clinic in Jujo.
目次
Have you ever been in a difficult situation where you suddenly got injured on a weekend or public holiday and thought, "I want to go to an orthopedic clinic, but it's closed..."? Even if you have sudden pain or swelling, finding an orthopedic clinic that is open on Saturdays and Sundays can be a challenge.
Jujo Station Haru Internal Medicine and Dermatology Clinic, located in Jujo, Kita-ku, Tokyo, treats acute conditions such as suspected fractures, sprains, bruises, and acute lower back pain during business hours, including weekends and public holidays. While addressing the question, "Can I be seen even if it's not an orthopedic clinic?", we will explain in detail the guidelines for consultation and the conditions we treat.
👉 Same-day consultations without an appointment are also possible. Please feel free to consult us first.
Sudden injuries on holidays or weekends, what should I do?
For "pain where you don't know if it's a fracture," you might not feel it's severe enough to call an ambulance, but you're also worried about leaving it untreated. In such cases, internal medicine and general outpatient clinics can handle the initial examination, X-rays, and first aid.
The important thing is to "get an image confirmation and immobilization as soon as possible." Leaving a fracture untreated carries the risk of malunion (the bone healing in a crooked position). Even if you're at the stage where you just want to "check it just in case," please come and see us.
Such symptoms can be treated at our clinic
① Sprains and bruises
For sprains of the ankle, wrist, or knee, the basics are rest, compression, ice, and elevation (RICE treatment) and immobilization. An X-ray will be taken to check the extent of ligament damage, and taping or splinting will be performed as needed.
② Suspected fractures
If you experience swelling and pain, or pain when putting weight on it, after a fall, drop, or collision, there is a possibility of a fracture. We will confirm with an X-ray, and if a fracture is found, we will immobilize it and, if necessary, prepare a referral letter to a specialized hospital (orthopedic or surgical).
③ Jammed finger
A jammed finger with pain or deformity may be accompanied by a fracture, dislocation, or tendon rupture. It is dangerous to try to pull it back into place yourself. We will check the bone condition with an X-ray and provide appropriate immobilization and rest instructions.
④ Acute lower back pain (lumbago)
If you suddenly experience severe lower back pain, it is often due to muscle or ligament damage (so-called acute lower back pain), but there is also a possibility of a fracture or herniated disc. We will provide initial treatment with rest, medication, and X-rays as needed. If accompanied by numbness or paralysis in the leg, more detailed examination is required, so please consult us as soon as possible.
⑤ Sports injuries
We treat all types of injuries that occur during sports on weekends, such as soccer, baseball, and jogging. These are common symptoms on Saturdays and Sundays, including muscle strains, bruises, sprains, and suspected stress fractures.
⑥ Children's injuries
We also treat acute injuries common in children, such as falls in the park, falls down stairs, and bicycle accidents. If your child "won't stop crying," "is swollen," or "can't move," it is recommended to get them checked just in case.
Why an internal medicine clinic can perform orthopedic treatments
Our clinic is equipped with X-ray facilities, allowing for initial diagnosis and first aid for fractures, dislocations, and sprains. Although it is not an orthopedic specialized clinic, we provide acute care and appropriate referrals to specialists.
Furthermore, a characteristic of our clinic is that we can provide simultaneous consultations in internal medicine if symptoms such as fever, wound infection, or severe stress reactions accompany the injury.
When to see a doctor: Come early if you experience these symptoms
-
The affected area is significantly swollen or deformed.
-
There is severe pain when putting weight on it (or moving it).
-
There is numbness or abnormal sensation.
-
There is an open wound or bleeding that is difficult to stop.
-
The child is guarding the affected area and not moving it.
-
The pain is getting stronger over time.
Even if you think "it's probably nothing serious," if any of the above apply, we strongly recommend seeing a doctor early. Early intervention can significantly impact the speed of recovery.
