What is Xolair injection?
Xolair is a completely new type of injectable drug that prevents the onset of allergic reactions.
Previous medications suppressed the causative substances (histamine, etc.) after they had already become active in the body. However, Xolair preemptively blocks the IgE antibodies that instruct the release of these causative substances.
By addressing the root cause of allergic reactions, it is highly effective even for severe symptoms that have not responded to any other medication.
Main characteristics of Xolair injection
①Overwhelming effectiveness and immediate results
Improvement can also be expected for symptoms that did not improve with previous oral medications or eye drops.
Although there are individual differences, Xolair begins to show effects a few days to 2 weeks after administration, and many people experience a peak reduction in symptoms after 1 to 2 weeks. The effects are said to last for several weeks to about a month. If the effect is diminished or weak, additional doses can be administered.
②safe with no side effects
Because Xolair's molecular structure does not act on the brain, it has almost none of the side effects characteristic of traditional allergy medications (antihistamines), such as drowsiness, lethargy, and dry mouth.
It is the optimal choice for those who do not want to lose any concentration, such as at work, while driving, or while studying for exams.
③Steroid-free and gentle on the body
Unlike steroid injections (such as Kenacort), which are known as potent hay fever injections, this treatment does not affect hormone balance.
Because it precisely targets only the cause of allergies (IgE antibodies), it places less burden on the body and can be safely received repeatedly.
Recommended for people who...
Patients for whom existing hay fever treatments are insufficiently effective
For those who absolutely do not want to get sleepy and want to maintain concentration
If you want to eliminate the hassle of taking medication and live comfortably
Those who want to avoid steroid injections and choose a treatment that is gentle on the body
If you suffer from widespread allergies other than cedar pollen
⚠️ For safety reasons, the following individuals cannot be prescribed medication at our clinic:

What are the side effects and risks of self-funded Xolair injections?
While Xolair is a highly safe and established drug used for many allergic diseases worldwide, the following side effects may occur:
Common side effects
The most frequent reactions are local reactions at the injection site.
① Injection site reactions: redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising, etc. ② Systemic symptoms: headache, dizziness, fatigue, low-grade fever, drowsiness, etc.
These usually resolve spontaneously within a few days of administration.
Serious side effects: Anaphylaxis
While extremely rare, there is a non-zero risk of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
Main symptoms include generalized hives, difficulty breathing, decreased blood pressure, and swelling of the lips and tongue.
From a safety standpoint, we ask that you wait in the clinic for approximately 10–15 minutes after administration, during which time we will monitor your condition with a full emergency response system in place.
Other notes
[Regarding driving and operating machinery] Rarely, you may experience drowsiness, dizziness, or fatigue. If these symptoms occur, avoid driving a car or operating machinery that involves danger.
For those with latex allergies: The needle cover contains latex-derived components. If you have experienced allergic reactions to latex in the past, please consult your doctor in advance.
FAQs
Can ZOLAIR be used by everyone?
The main conditions are that other treatments have been ineffective,杉特異的IgEクラス3以上 (cedar-specific IgE class 3 or higher), the patient is 12 years of age or older, and total IgE and weight are within the standard range.
If blood test results indicate the patient is not eligible, treatment will not be covered by insurance.
When does Xolair become effective?
The effects begin to appear a few days to two weeks after administration. Ideally, it should be administered before the start of the pollen season (mid-January to early February). While it can still be effective if administered after the season has already begun, starting early is more advantageous from the perspective of symptom control.
If I get Xolair, can I stop taking my other medications?
No. You should continue to take antihistamines while on Xolair (this is also a condition for insurance coverage). Do not reduce or stop taking other medications on your own. If your symptoms are well controlled, it may be possible to adjust the frequency of your medication under the guidance of your doctor.
Do I need to keep doing it every year?
The effects of Xolair last only for the season in which it is administered. If you experience severe hay fever again the following year, it will be necessary to re-confirm the severity of your hay fever from the previous season and undergo another insurance coverage review. We recommend combining this treatment with sublingual immunotherapy for a fundamental improvement in your constitution.
Can a 12-year-old child use it?
Cedar pollinosis is covered by insurance for individuals aged 12 and above. Our pediatrics department also treats this condition. Currently, there is no insurance coverage for children under 12, so please consult us first. For bronchial asthma, it can be used for individuals aged 6 and above.
You mentioned that you had an allergy test done at another hospital. Can we use those results?
We will refer to the total IgE and cedar-specific IgE test results from other institutions if available. However, for Xolair dosage calculations, it is required (as per insurance coverage requirements) to use "measurements taken at our hospital before the initial administration." If necessary, we will conduct retesting at our hospital. The cost of the tests is covered by insurance.
Your IgE levels are over 1,500 IU/mL. Can Xolair still be used?
For IgE levels exceeding 1,500 IU/mL, pollen allergy treatment is not covered by insurance under the current dosage conversion table. However, it may be possible to administer the drug for bronchial asthma or chronic urticaria, depending on the applicability criteria for asthma. Additionally, individuals with very high total IgE may have underlying blood disorders or parasitic infections, so a detailed examination may be recommended.
